If in other posts we explained the benefits of team building both for companies that work remotely and for companies that still opt for on-site work, this time we focus on the concept itself.
What is team building? Below we explain some keys about building teams — a cornerstone of MICE tourism — and why to apply it in companies. Let's begin!
The term may sound new, but the reality is that its origins date back to 1920, when the renowned social psychologist and writer William McDougall published the book "The Group Mind". In this work, the writer focused on the importance of encouraging teamwork to increase productivity.
However, it was not until 1927 that Professor Elton Mayo put the concept of teamwork into practice. Experiments were designed to determine the relationship between productivity and the working conditions of an electrical factory. And although at first the working conditions were to be assessed from a physical standpoint (lighting, temperature, ergonomics, etc.), emotional and psychological elements such as motivation or group cohesion ended up being incorporated into the experiment.
The conclusions were revealing: productivity and performance are directly affected by the work environment and the relationship with co-workers.
Today, team building is presented as a business strategy that, through different activities focused on stimulating workforce cohesion and motivation, improves the company's productivity — the kind of experience our event services are built around.
If we want to improve productivity and strengthen group spirit, team building is the best alternative to achieve it. So, by putting teamwork into practice both outside and inside the work environment — whether with sporting activities, escape rooms, volunteering or internal events at the right venue — we can boost motivation and a positive attitude, much like a well-designed incentive trip, but also reinforce the brand image that great corporate events project.
