Direct flights to Barcelona 2026-2027: new El Prat routes and what they mean for your group

Airplane on the tarmac at Barcelona El-Prat Airport facing the main terminal building for new direct flight routes.

Last updated: October 2026. Written by Cristina Parera Anglada, Senior Accounts Director, CREA Group Events & DMC. Routes and frequencies reviewed on October 22, 2026.

Direct flights to Barcelona from the US leave from 13 airports in our 2026-2027 inventory, but only two of them, New York JFK and Miami, are confirmed nonstop for every week of the coming winter. The new routes are Seattle with Delta (three a week, summer 2026), Boston with JetBlue (daily, April 16 to October 25, 2026) and Charlotte with American (daily from May 27, 2027). This guide gives you each new route into El Prat with its season and arrival time, the winter gaps that affect incentive dates, and how long your group takes from the terminal to the venue.

For every Spanish airport, and for the difference between nonstop and direct flights, see our direct flights to Spain route map. This guide covers El Prat only.

Which new direct flights to Barcelona start in 2026 and 2027?

Ten long-haul changes at El Prat matter for 2026-2027 groups. Charlotte opens in May 2027; Seattle, Boston, Mexico City, Lima and San Salvador launched in 2026; Singapore flies nonstop from October 2026; LEVEL pauses Boston and Los Angeles this winter; and Taipei is planned, pending permits. For a group, the season of each route matters as much as the route.

What do the new routes to Barcelona mean for a group?

Each new route changes something different in a group program: which home cities can fly without a connection, which days the group can arrive and how the first day has to be planned. Frequency and season, in the table above, decide most of it. This is what each route means in practice for a meeting or incentive group.

  • ➝ Charlotte (American, daily from May 27, 2027): Charlotte is an American Airlines hub, so attendees from Southeast cities without a nonstop can connect there on one airline and one ticket. The flight lands at 7:35 a.m.: plan early check-in or a hospitality room, and a light first day.

  • ➝ Seattle (Delta, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, summer): West Coast attendees no longer need an East Coast connection. With three flights a week, though, the airline sets your possible arrival days, and the group block concentrates on fewer departures.

  • ➝ Boston (JetBlue daily and Delta, summer): two airlines on one route give you more room to split a large group and compare fares. It only works for spring and summer programs: from late October there is no nonstop from Boston.

  • ➝ LEVEL from Boston and Los Angeles (paused this winter): a group from either city traveling this winter has to connect. Budget the connection from the first proposal.

  • ➝ Mexico City (Aeroméxico, 6 a week) and Lima (LEVEL, 3 a week): both serve Latin American delegations at fairs and conventions. Mexico City ended its 2026 season on October 24, so check its 2027 dates; Lima's three weekly flights limit arrival days in the same way as Seattle.

  • ➝ San Salvador (Iberojet, once a week, T2): with one flight a week, the length of the program is tied to that departure day. It fits small groups or full-week programs, and it lands at T2, so meet-and-greet staff and coaches go to a different terminal from the rest of the group.

  • ➝ Singapore (Singapore Airlines, 5 a week, winter, lands 6:40 a.m.): the nonstop option for Asia-Pacific delegations at MWC 2027. It lands before any hotel check-in, so first-morning hospitality belongs in the budget.

  • ➝ San Francisco for MWC (United, February 27 and March 3, 2027): two one-off flights on a Boeing 777-300ER, timed for the congress, for a tech delegation that would otherwise connect.

  • ➝ Taipei (Starlux, pending permits): not something to include in a 2027 proposal yet. Plan with a connection and review when the airline announces a date.

For an agency, this is the answer your client asks for first: can my people fly direct, on which days, and what does that do to the program.

Which US cities fly nonstop to Barcelona in winter 2026-2027?

According to the CREA Group Events & DMC route inventory, between January 5 and February 10, 2027, the only US airports with confirmed nonstop flights to Barcelona are New York JFK and Miami. Washington Dulles returns on February 11, Dallas-Fort Worth on March 3, and the summer routes from late spring. For a January or February program, plan US arrivals around those two gateways or around a connection.

This window matters for trade fairs. If your team exhibits at ICE Barcelona in January 2027 (January 18-20), it flies nonstop only from JFK or Miami, or connects. In winter, JFK has three airlines on the route (American, Delta and LEVEL) and Miami two (American and LEVEL).

If your attendees fly from several US cities, our DMC in Barcelona team (a destination management company: the local partner that runs ground operations for a visiting group) can tell you in one call which of them have a nonstop on your dates.

What time do long-haul flights land at El Prat, and what happens next?

Eastbound nonstops from the US fly overnight and land at El Prat in the morning: American's Charlotte flight is scheduled to arrive at 7:35 a.m., and Singapore Airlines' SQ388 at 6:40 a.m. Both land hours before a standard hotel check-in, and every non-EU passenger who enters the Schengen area at El Prat goes through EES biometric registration first.

What changes on the ground at El Prat:

  • ➝ Terminal: American, Delta, United, Aeroméxico, Singapore Airlines and LEVEL (listed under Iberia) use T1; Iberojet uses T2, according to Aena. Meet-and-greet staff and coach positions depend on it.

  • ➝ Border: first-time EES registration (fingerprints and facial image) lengthens the passport queue. If the group connects through another Schengen airport, registration happens there instead.

  • ➝ Coach pick-up: private group coaches stop on the ground floor (level 0) of T1 and at numbered bays in T2, according to Aeropuertos del Mundo. Confirm the bay with your coach company the day before.

  • ➝ Metro is not a group option: line L9 Sud ends at Zona Universitària and stops at Fira, so the city center needs a change of line; T-grup and T-casual cards are not valid at the airport stations, according to TMB.

How long does it take from El Prat to your venue with a group?

El Prat is about 15 km (9 mi) from Barcelona city center: around 30 minutes by road in light traffic and 35-45 minutes at peak hours (8-9 a.m. and 5-7 p.m.), according to transfer provider Transfeero. Fira Gran Via is the closest major venue, about 15 minutes away; the CCIB in Diagonal Mar is the farthest, at 20 km or more. A group coach adds baggage and boarding time on top.

Approximate times by car or van, from transfer-provider and venue data: Transfeero, European Society of Cardiology on Fira Gran Via, Terrapinn on Fira Montjuïc and ESMO on the CCIB. Peak column: off-peak time plus the 5-15 extra minutes Transfeero reports for 8-9 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. A full-size coach is usually slower than a car in the old town.

Two things the table does not include. Even for private cars, the average time from scheduled landing to boarding the transfer at El Prat is about 30 minutes, according to Transfeero's own records (October 2025 to October 2026); a group of 40 takes longer. And Barcelona's low-emission zone applies on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., so confirm that every coach carries the required environmental label.

Vehicle access is not the same across the city either. For an awards evening for about 180 guests at Capella MACBA during ICE 2026, we had to secure access permits for vehicles entering the Raval, where traffic is restricted. During fair weeks, airport transfers and Fira shuttles also compete for the same coaches, so book the fleet for both at once.

Your coach plan also depends on who runs the program: our convention organizer in Barcelona and meeting planner in Barcelona teams build it from the flight list, not the rooming list.

Moving a group between El Prat, Fira and an evening venue in the same week?

During ICE 2025 and 2026, we ran a recurring evening at Casa Llotja de Mar for about 500 guests, with up to 600 rotating over four hours. Ten coaches shuttled guests from Fira Gran Via to the venue and then on to Plaça Catalunya, alongside more than 30 performers and 360° projection mapping. CREA handled venue search, production, catering, staffing, transport, suppliers, permits and show calling.

📌 For US planners

Since April 10, 2026, the EU's Entry/Exit System has been fully operational at all external Schengen borders (French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs). ETIAS, the online travel authorization US citizens will need, is not yet operating: as of October 22, 2026, the EU had not announced a start date, after dropping its "last quarter of 2026" target in July (Schengen Visa Info); check the official EU portal before you send joining instructions. Barcelona runs six hours ahead of New York and nine ahead of Seattle for most of the year. Dinner starts around 9:00 p.m., so on arrival day keep the welcome dinner early or light.

Frequently asked questions about direct flights to Barcelona

What new direct flights from the US to Barcelona start in 2027?

American Airlines opens Charlotte to Barcelona on May 27, 2027: daily, Boeing 777-200ER, departing at 4:50 p.m. and landing at 7:35 a.m. United adds two one-off San Francisco flights for MWC on February 27 and March 3, 2027. Seattle (Delta) and Boston (JetBlue) ran in summer 2026, with no 2027 dates announced yet.

What do the new Barcelona routes mean for a group?

They change which cities can fly to Barcelona without a connection, which days a group can arrive and how the first day is planned. Charlotte adds a one-airline connection from the US Southeast from May 2027. Seattle and Lima fly three times a week, which fixes arrival days. Boston and Mexico City are summer-only, and San Salvador flies once a week.

Is there a nonstop flight from Charlotte to Barcelona?

From May 27, 2027, yes: American Airlines flies Charlotte to Barcelona daily, landing at 7:35 a.m. Before that date, Charlotte travelers can fly nonstop to Madrid, which American serves from Charlotte, or connect to Barcelona through another US gateway. Between January 5 and February 10, 2027, the connection should go through New York JFK or Miami.

Which airlines fly direct to Barcelona from the US?

American, Delta, United, JetBlue and LEVEL fly nonstop from the US to Barcelona in 2026-2027, but not all year. In winter 2026-27, American, Delta and LEVEL fly from New York JFK, American and LEVEL from Miami, and United from Washington Dulles, with a pause from January 5 to February 10, 2027. Most other routes are summer-only.

Can a US group fly nonstop to Barcelona in January or February?

Yes, from two airports. Between January 5 and February 10, 2027, New York JFK and Miami are the only US airports with confirmed nonstops to Barcelona. Washington Dulles returns on February 11. Groups from other cities connect through those gateways, through Madrid or through another European hub.

How long is the transfer from Barcelona airport to the city center for a group?

About 30 minutes by road in light traffic and 35-45 minutes at peak hours (8-9 a.m. and 5-7 p.m.), according to transfer-provider data. A group coach adds baggage and boarding time: even private-car pickups at El Prat average about 30 minutes from scheduled landing. The metro is not practical for groups with luggage: line L9 Sud needs a change of line for the city center. The table above gives approximate times by venue zone.
