Running motivating group activities in a setting away from the usual work environment is something more and more companies are embracing. Outdoor activities. Running dynamics in an open-air setting is hugely beneficial, as it clears the mind and encourages participation. Some options include canyoning, sailing or even skydiving for the most daring. This kind of activity turns the experience into an adventure, where tension and cohesion come together to achieve a common goal.
The quick decision. Participants are split into groups of three. Each group has one minute to choose a single word that defines the company. Once the time is up, the groups share their choice and explain why they picked that word. It is a very simple exercise that delivers a great deal of information and energy: it not only reveals what employees think of the company but also stimulates teamwork, fast decision-making and active listening.
Shared tastes. This activity involves forming groups of five and writing down each person's five favourite films, songs or books. Once done, the groups compare their lists and highlight the matches. It helps group cohesion, lets colleagues get to know each other better and strengthens bonds.
Building trust. In pairs, colleagues have to show trust in one another — for example, letting themselves fall so their partner catches them, or being guided while blindfolded. Trusting your colleagues creates a positive atmosphere and boosts productivity.
